Recently, our CEDO students embarked on an unforgettable journey to the remote archaeological sites of Beng Mealea and Koh Ker in Northern Cambodia. This adventure was more than just a trip; it was an enriching experience filled with breathtaking views, stunning landscapes, and a deep dive into the rich history of Cambodia's countryside and ancient temples.
Beng Mealea, often referred to as the "jungle temple," offered a glimpse into the majestic ruins engulfed by nature. The sprawling temple complex, with its crumbling stones and intertwining roots, provided a picturesque backdrop that left everyone in awe. The students marveled at the intricate carvings and the sheer scale of the ancient structure, which dates back to the early 12th century.
Next, our journey took us to Koh Ker, a former capital of the Khmer Empire, where we explored the less frequented yet equally impressive temples. The Prasat Thom pyramid towered above us, a testament to the architectural prowess of the Khmer civilization. Walking through the ruins, we could almost feel the echoes of history resonating from the stone walls.
The trip was not just about sightseeing; it was an educational voyage that allowed the students to connect with Cambodia's cultural heritage. Learning about the historical significance of these sites added depth to the experience, making it both enlightening and inspiring.
This excursion to Beng Mealea and Koh Ker was a perfect blend of education and adventure, leaving the students with lasting memories and a profound appreciation for Cambodia's historical treasures.
